Workshop for teams New

Improving Cognitive Capacity

From mental fog and overload to clarity

This workshop is designed to help people understand why their head can feel full, foggy or stretched thin, and what’s going on in the brain when it does.

Through interactive activities and practical, research-backed tools, participants learn how to protect their focus, clear their mental load and recharge so they can think more clearly at work.

What’s covered

Key learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how working memory, stress and multitasking affect their ability to focus and think clearly
  • Use simple tools to protect their attention and get unfinished tasks and worries off their mind
  • Plan small, realistic changes to their breaks, movement, sleep and end-of-day routine that help them recharge

Questions we get asked

Before you book

Can the workshop be delivered online or in person?
Both. We deliver in person anywhere in Australia, or virtually if your people are spread across sites or you would rather not bring everyone into one room. The content and the activities work either way, and we will talk through which format suits your group when we chat.
Who will facilitate our session?
We have around 20 Be Well Certified facilitators around the country. Being Be Well Certified means we have taken them through the science behind our programs and they deliver our materials. Rather than sending whoever happens to be free, we match a facilitator to your organisation based on the energy of the group and what your people need. You can meet the team here.
How long is the session, and how many people can attend?
Sessions run for one or two hours, and we usually suggest up to 30 people so there is still room for people to talk. If you have a bigger audience in mind, we also do presentations that land better for larger groups.
What does it cost?
Get in touch and tell us what you have in mind. Price varies depending on the format, the duration and the type of session, so once we understand your requirements we will send you a proposal with costing.
How far in advance do we need to book?
We have turned sessions around in a week and we have planned them months out, so there is flexibility. Around four weeks tends to work best. It gives us time to get to know your organisation and match the right facilitator, and it gives you time to get your team or leaders ready for it.
Why does my head feel full or foggy at work?
They’re two different feelings. A full head feels busy, racing and crowded, like nothing else will fit. It usually means there’s too much on and stress is running high. A foggy head feels slow, flat and dim, like driving through fog. It usually comes from mental fatigue, short sleep and not enough recovery. The two often feed each other: a full head makes it hard to switch off, which affects sleep and recovery, which leads to a foggier head, slower work and tasks piling up.
Does multitasking really make it harder to focus?
For most thinking tasks, yes. The brain can’t really do two thinking tasks at once. It switches rapidly between them, and every switch costs time and accuracy. Even after you switch, part of your attention stays behind on the last task. The workshop includes a quick activity so people can feel this for themselves, then looks at practical ways to protect focus.
Why does sleep matter so much for thinking clearly?
Sleep is one of the biggest drivers of a foggy head. One Australian study found that being awake for 17 to 19 hours affected performance about as much as a blood alcohol level of 0.05. The session looks at small, realistic changes to sleep, breaks, movement and the end of the workday that help people recharge.
What will people actually do in the session?
It’s hands-on. Activities include a quick check of how full your working memory is, a multitasking challenge, “Close your tabs” to get the things taking up space in your head out of it, a next step for each loose end, a quick movement break, and building your own recovery menu. Everyone leaves with one or two small changes to try over the next two weeks.
Is this workshop about long-term brain health?
No. The session focuses on how people think and feel at work day to day, and practical ways to feel clearer and less overloaded. Things like medical conditions, medications and hormones can also affect thinking, so if someone has ongoing concerns about their memory or concentration, their GP is the best place to start.
How is this different from Improving Energy or Managing Stress?
They work well together. Improving Energy looks at what drives energy and fatigue across the day, and Managing Stress goes deeper on how the stress response works. Improving Cognitive Capacity focuses on attention and mental load: why your head feels full or foggy, and simple tools to clear it so you can think more clearly.
