A 2-day intensive building the practical skills and habits behind good mental health

Because wellbeing isn't the absence of struggle, it's a set of skills anyone can build

Most of us think about mental health as a straight line between “ill” and “well.” The research tells a different story: someone can be managing a mental illness and still be thriving, and someone with no diagnosis can still be languishing. This 2-day intensive gives participants a practical, science-backed framework (the Be Well Plan) to understand their own mental health, build strategies for managing stress and challenges, tap into their strengths and support networks, and turn what they learn into lasting habits.

Why this matters now

Investing in mental health isn’t only relevant to people who are struggling. This shift is driven by three key realities:

  1. Prevalence, with around 60 to 70% of people struggling with how they feel day to day, far more than the 20 to 25% most of us assume
  2. Complexity, with research showing 8% of people can have symptoms of mental illness while still reporting high wellbeing, and 20% can have no diagnosed illness while still experiencing very low wellbeing
  3. Capacity for change, with wellbeing driven by a mix of nature and nurture, meaning there’s real, meaningful room to build skills and improve it regardless of circumstance

Good mental health isn’t something people either have or don’t, it’s a skill set that can be built.

Wellbeing and illness aren't opposites

Most systems treat mental illness and wellbeing as two ends of the same line. In reality, they’re related but distinct. Someone can be managing a diagnosed illness and still have meaning, strong relationships and a sense of purpose. Someone else can have no diagnosis at all and still be running on empty. Common factors this program helps people work with include:

  • Everyday stressors, and the unhelpful default responses they trigger (withdrawal, avoidance, poor health habits)
  • Negativity bias, which makes challenges feel bigger and resources feel smaller than they really are
  • Personal strengths and what genuinely energises someone
  • The role of a support network, both personal and professional, in sustaining wellbeing

Understanding this shift is often the biggest “aha” moment of the two days.
