Practical workplace workshop
Building a healthier relationship with yourself at work and in life
Many people are far harsher on themselves than they would ever be with others. This workshop introduces self-compassion as a practical, evidence-based skill that supports wellbeing, emotional regulation, and resilience, especially during times of stress, pressure, or perceived failure. Participants learn how to respond to challenges with greater awareness, balance, and clarity, without lowering standards or avoiding responsibility.
Key learning outcomes
Participants will:
- Understand what self-compassion is and what it is not
- Recognise common patterns of self-criticism
- Learn how self-compassion supports wellbeing and resilience
- Explore emotional regulation through the threat, drive, and soothing systems
- Identify personal barriers to practising self-compassion
- Practise simple, practical self-compassion strategies
When self-criticism becomes the default
In many workplaces, self-criticism is often mistaken for motivation. While reflection can be helpful, ongoing self-criticism can lead to:
- Increased stress and emotional exhaustion
- Shame and rumination after mistakes
- Reduced confidence and wellbeing
- Difficulty recovering from setbacks
- Over time, this internal dialogue can undermine both performance and mental health
Learning to respond to challenges with greater self-compassion helps people stay engaged, recover more effectively, and maintain perspective under pressure.
