Workshop for teams

Psychological Safety for Teams

Building trust, open communication, and high-performing team environments

Psychological safety is one of the strongest predictors of team performance, yet many teams struggle to create environments where people feel safe to speak up, share ideas, and challenge the status quo.

This workshop helps participants understand what psychological safety is, why it matters, and how it can be actively built through everyday behaviours, not just leadership intention.

What’s covered

Key learning outcomes

Grounded in research and practical application, the session focuses on creating team environments where people feel safe to contribute, learn, and perform at their best.

Participants will:

  • Understand what psychological safety is and why it matters
  • Recognise the impact of psychological safety on performance, wellbeing, and teamwork
  • Identify behaviours that build or erode psychological safety
  • Understand the link between trust, defensiveness, and team dynamics
  • Learn how to foster open communication and constructive challenge
  • Build practical skills for speaking up and navigating difficult conversations

Questions we get asked

Before you book

Can the workshop be delivered online or in person?
Both. We deliver in person anywhere in Australia, or virtually if your people are spread across sites or you would rather not bring everyone into one room. The content and the activities work either way, and we will talk through which format suits your group when we chat.
Who will facilitate our session?
We have around 20 Be Well Certified facilitators around the country. Being Be Well Certified means we have taken them through the science behind our programs and they deliver our materials. Rather than sending whoever happens to be free, we match a facilitator to your organisation based on the energy of the group and what your people need. You can meet the team here.
How long is the session, and how many people can attend?
Sessions run for one or two hours, and we usually suggest up to 30 people so there is still room for people to talk. If you have a bigger audience in mind, we also do presentations that land better for larger groups.
What does it cost?
Get in touch and tell us what you have in mind. Price varies depending on the format, the duration and the type of session, so once we understand your requirements we will send you a proposal with costing.
How far in advance do we need to book?
We have turned sessions around in a week and we have planned them months out, so there is flexibility. Around four weeks tends to work best. It gives us time to get to know your organisation and match the right facilitator, and it gives you time to get your team or leaders ready for it.
What is psychological safety?
Psychological safety is defined as a person’s perceived ability to speak up, be themselves, and take interpersonal risks without fear of negative consequences. When it’s present, teams are more likely to share ideas and challenge thinking, learn from mistakes rather than hide them, collaborate more effectively, and adapt and innovate under pressure. When it’s missing, people are more likely to stay quiet, avoid risk, and operate in self-protection mode, limiting both performance and wellbeing.
What do psychologically safe teams look like?
Research shows psychologically safe teams often demonstrate conversational equality (all voices are heard), shared decision making, respectful disagreement, a strong learning and feedback culture, and a sense of belonging and inclusion. These environments don’t happen by accident, they are built intentionally over time.
Is this for leaders or for the whole team?
This one is built for teams, and it works with a whole team or department in the room. If you are looking for something for your leadership group, we run Leading Psychological Safety, which covers the leader’s role in building it. Many organisations run both so everyone is working from the same definitions.
