Be Well Plan

The Problem

The Be Well Plan aims to make evidence-based mental health solutions available and accessible to all of us.

The program focuses on a big societal oversight: Mental health is more than mental illness. Working on our mental health is important for all of us, no matter whether we have symptoms of mental illness or not.

Promoting our mental health is similar to working on our physical fitness. It keeps us feeling good, it is important to prevent us from getting ill and it helps us speed up recovery when we develop more serious problems.

The Opportunity

Proactively working on our mental health makes sense, right? Sure, but our mental health system and its services tend to only kick in when we fall ill: it is not designed or resourced to promote mental health.

And that’s ok as there are other ways we can stimulate mental health. Individuals and their organisations (businesses, universities etc) are looking for ways to promote mental health & wellbeing.

All that’s often missing to see sustainable impact is access to evidence-based programs, support materials and a lively community of wellbeing professionals, which is where the Be Well Plan comes in.

Our Solution

We developed the Be Well Plan as one of the solutions to desire for people and organisations to pro-actively work on their mental health

We brought together everyday people and got them to work with experts from the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre and the Órama Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia. We dissected the scientific evidence, worked on various delivery formats and tested them rigorously.

The result is a flexible mental health program, that can be tailored to the needs of individuals and organisations, is supported by technology and more importantly: has real impact. And that’s what we are all about.

The Be Well Plan is a mental health solution for all of us, harnessing the reach of the many organisations that care for their people. The Be Well Plan is a group-based program that comes in different formats:

In-person

Delivered via our professional trainers or by upskilled people within organisations, taught in small to medium size groups (up to 30-40 people) over 5 weekly sessions. Masterclasses are provided to ensure sustainability and long-lasting change.

The Be Well Plan was also developed to be delivered remotely via teleconferencing software. It comes with both printed and online resources such as an interactive PDF and pre-recorded session videos for people who miss a session.

The App

The plan also comes in an app-format, delivered using an abbreviated introduction workshop (5 hour minimum), supported by monthly masterclasses to ensure impact and tackle a key challenge for technology solutions: drop out.

The Be Well Plan philosophy

Throughout this program you will learn different exercises and strategies to build strong and positive levels of mental health and wellbeing.

Throughout the program, you are taught helpful thinking styles, including mindfulness, cognitive flexibility, self-compassion and realistic optimism to start. Each week you will experiment with different activities.

This is not a one-size-fits all program: we won’t just give you some exercises. Rather, we will teach you how to find exercises and strategies tailored just for you and your unique needs.

Each week you will experiment with different activities, figuring out what works and what does not.  In the end you walk away with your own customised Be Well Plan.

About Us

Be Well Co Pty Ltd is a spin-out from the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). We were set up to translate the research that SAHMRI and their collaborators (including Flinders University) conduct on the Be Well Plan and the Be Well Tracker. We are an independent organisation, but are still strongly tied to research institutes, with a portion of proceeds feeding back into vital research into mental health and wellbeing.
